Hi,

The fact that Squid started without errors means that the files and options you are calling in your config file are correct. It doesn't mean that the authentication works. For that you'll need to access an application for which you enabled authentication for in Squid, for example access to a website. If Squid asks you for a user/password combo when trying to access that website, you get authenticated correctly agains your AD and the website is shown, that's when you can state that authentication is working.

And you're welcome for the help, that's what LQ is all about.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello,

You can also have a look at the well documented man page of the ldap authentication in Squid:
Code:
man squid_ldap_auth
Kind regards,

Eric

No need to put your foot in your mouth

Have a look at this site: Squid and Active Directory

Ok Sorted out the permissions but i cant seem to initialise the cache.
I click on initialise but squid doesnt start..any ideas ?

Please ..

Your Squid cache directory /var/spool/squid has not been initialized. This must be done before Squid can be run.

Hello,

Looks like you sorted out a lot of things already, well done.

To initialize you need to run
Code:
squid -z
That will create and initialize the cache directory structure.

Kind regards,

Eric

Hello,

Check (and post) the permissions on /var/spool/squid3/ to see if you have the rights to create directories in it.

Kind regards,

Eric

Thumbs up

HI ERIC (SEEMS LIKE UR THE ONLY ONE HELPING ME OUT ;-)

OK...i got tired of everything so i did a fresh format/install..learnt that dell optiplex aint so install ready so had to use noapic ..installed. installed squid3. Got it working. Got windows authentication working (PHEW !!!) just to find out its the same as normal authentication in the sense that it doesnt do it automatically but asks for username/passwords again. If i am logged onto the domain, is there a way of doing this automatically which was my main reason for authentication? else i could always use a passowrd file which is the same thing almost and no i dont wanna do that password file.

If i cant well so be it..am happy so far. Now i need to get sarg working.just when i thought i was done. Well installed sarg but it doesnt generate any reports just empty. So i tracked the sarg file it's in /etc/squid when my squid is in /etc/squid3. Is there a way to tell sarg to install in a particualr directory ?
Cut and paste the files in squid3 but now sarg cant run saying something bout cant find version/language. Sarg has to be int eh same folder as squid3 right ?? (correct me if i am wrong ) so yeah please help me get sarg running. Oh and i am doing a doco that i will post soon on the squid installation so that people dont spend 3Months !! like i did figuring this out. Thank goodness i found this site n Eric.

thanks a lot guys...

Cheers and please get back to me on Sarg. ;-)
