Squid Newbie RH2.5 Squid 2.5, 4 ethernet question, default gw not an option

hey all

New Guy here, I have a rather prickly question for you...

I am running Squid 2.5 on Red Hat Enterprise Linus AS Release 4 (Nahant Update 6) and I am trying to get squid to listen on a particular port and network connection... and that was the easy part...

the part that seems to be difficult for my limited abilities is to get Squid to TALK on a particular network connection that is not the default route.

this machine has 4 network connections for various purposes

eth0 (default) - provides time to our DMZ servers
eth1 - gets time from upstream time-servers
eth4 - the port with inet access
eth5 - the port set up to listen to inet requests

So I essentially want squid to listen to eth5 for internet requests (which it does, on the right port) and route those requests to the inet on eth4...

is this something available in a new version, because I didnt see anything in any release notes.

Any ideas?

I probably had 2.5 tunnelvision when I wrote the original note, it was the end of the day and I had already beat up mah brain...

The results is

"Red Hat Enterprise Linus AS Release 4 (Nahant Update 6)"

redhat is only still supporting RHEL 4.9 ( not 4.6)
and 4.9 is still only supported if you pay redhat EXTRA cash

it is on EXTRA Extended Life Support for a few more months , but you have to pay extra for it

you might want to upgrade to the Current operating system
RHEL 6.5

I will see if we have a distro in the office... now to the original question... is it possible to make Squid do what I am asking it to do?

John VV 05-14-2014 02:34 PM

for security reasons i would not even try to set up squid on an unsupported operating system

Buy and install RHEL 6.5 first
then set up squid .
