SQUASHFS error...
I have burned several different linux distros to cd-r, however I always get the same type of error message. A page full of this:
Code:
SQUASHFS error: zlib_fs returned unexpected result 0xfffffffd I know for sure that my download was not corrupted, and that my CD drive is opperating correctly. I have done burns at different speeds and verified that my .iso burned correctly. I have had a friend burn me of some CDs with the same result. I also know that I have enough RAM. I am using a fairly new HP w/Win XP and any help would be appreciated. --Linux Newbie |
You say you know that the download is correct -- did you verify the MD5 sum? You might try running memtest86 on the computer you're trying to install on. Perhaps the memory is bad?

Im having this problem among other several problems with a dell gx260: cant install any OS. I found this:
Some users have reported being unable to boot from the Ubuntu LiveCD, due to SquasFS errors like this: [ 135.292409] SQUASHFS error: sb_bread failed reading block 0x9d7f3 [ 135.292411] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read fragment cache block [275faa28] [ 135.292413] SQUASHFS error: Unable to read page, block 275faa28, size 23a7 These errors can be due to a variety of reasons: * bad media (solution: try burning the iso image to a new disc) * a bad dvd drive (solution: if possible, try using a different cd/dvd drive) * bad memory modules (solution: use memtest86+ to check your memory) * a corrupted iso image (solution: run an md5 checksum, and if they don't match, download the iso image again) * an optical drive connected via SATA instead of PATA and running in Enhanced mode (solution: change the IDE configuration to "compatible" in the BIOS) This is all described in more detail here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SquashfsErrors |
I just wanted to say I hit this issue today and was perplexed until I found this forum post. Thanks guys, it was a bad memory stick that was causing all the headache. The funny thing was I was trying to boot from a USB stick with crunchbang, and then two separate Ubuntu CDs (in case one was a problem burn) and also another linux mint disc. All with the same kind of errors, the desktop would freeze or not even come up, you had a terminal when pressing CTRL+ALT+F1 but lots of SQUASHFS errors and memory allocation errors in /var/log/messages.
I popped out one stick tried it, same again, swapped for the other stick and tried again, all good that time. I also disabled the bios fast boot and enabled the memory checking there too. Thank you once again :-) |
