SQLDeveloper failed to start with jdk1.6.0_11

Hi,

this is driving me crazy...
I installed sqldeveloper first and while starting the same it came up with the error
Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: Bad version number in .class file

After going through various forums I installed jdk1.6.0_11 and updated the /usr/sbin/alternatives and pointed to the location of jdk1.6.0_11after making changes in the bash_profile..still its giving the above error..

My Java version is as follows

java version "1.6.0_11"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 11.0-b16, mixed mode, sharing)

Hi,

This sounds vaguely familiar. Try delete the files in the /home/user/.sqldeveloper.

Sorry, meant you should try delete the files in the .sqldeveloper folder that is located in your home directory. Then try run start sqldeveloper again.
There's a file in there that contains info about the version of Java detected on your machine. I suspect its not getting updated. I do not have access to a linux box at the moment so I can't verify the exact file that contains it.

[solved]

Hi,

I figured it out...Actually I was running the sqldeveloper from a wrong path

The correct path was "$ORACLE_HOME/sqldeveloper/sqldeveloper/bin" and after running $ sh sqldeveloper it worked as a charm..

Thank you...
