Splitting of Apps server and database (32bit/64bit)

Intro:
Applications and database running on same server on64bit Solaris Primepower.

Proposal:
To move to two servers (separate apps and database servers) with dedicated 2Gig link between them.

Question 1:
If we keep the database running on Solaris (64bit) and the apps 64bit Linux (Red Hat or SUSE) can expect any compatibility or performance issues?

Question 2:
If we keep the database running on Linux (32bit) and the apps 64bit Linux (Red Hat or SUSE) can expect any compatibility or performance issues?

Question 3:
If the two o/s are different can we expect any issues (technical or performance)?

Thanks
Andre

Hi, and welcome to LQ!

I wouldn't expect problems with any of these scenarios (different OS and
bit width should be transparent to the network-layer), but the authoritative
source to answer that will always be http://metalink.oracle.com

Cheers,
Tink

You should only encounter the conectivity problems
ex... App talks to database through local socket instead of the network, Permissions for the remote app account to access the database, and backups for the DB and app will require twice the equipment or backup accross the wire.
