Unhappy Speedtouch 330 - GCC Problems

Hi,

Hope someone can help.

I'm having problems installing my speedtouch 330: I have downloaded the script from the speedtouchconf website (I can't post URL's yet but I'm sure everyone and their dog knows what I'm referring to) and firmware for the silver modem.

Great, all is well. I previously had this working but it turned out I had some strange cooker version, which I didn't find out until I had configured everything... So now I have the Official version from the Mardriva website. Anyway.

I run the speedtouchconf.sh script but I get error:

ERROR:

Some required files are not installed:
gcc
Please install these (from your Linux install media, or the internet).

PPP version 2.4.3 shows okay and so does Linux kernel version 2.6.11.

I have done urpmi gcc and it only shows gcc-cpp and libgcc1 as matching that request, which are already installed.

So, the question is how do I get the GCC installed? I have tried the GCC website but to be perfectly honest I don't understand the instructions.

Any pointers or instruction?

I have the same problem, it was supposed to work smoothly in Mandriva 10.2 as it worked in mandriva 10.1.

I followed linux kernel driver and it worked in 10.1 : http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/mandrake/index.html

The service responsible for starting the USB devices(i think) named "hotplug" is not started by default in the boot , so you must go to control center and under services section tick the option that makes it start when booting. and it should work fine in 10.1 also do the same in 10.2(but it didn't work)

The user space driver is included in mandriva as speedtouch-1.3-10mdk.i586.rpm
but it is not working(at least for me) & it is the same as the one found in

http://sourceforge.net/projects/speedtouch
which will tell you when you try to install that PPPoE is needed by "name of the package"

At last there is the way you tried which is the speedtouchconf project
http://speedtouchconf.sourceforge.net/
it didn't work for me and gave me the same error but i will try to install all the development packages and i will try it again as it the only way left & i will tell you.

P.S. make sure you have error-free cds & the right microcode.
P.S.S. to install gcc .. 1st mount your 3 cds in the media manager and then go to package installer and choose mandrake linux choices and install gcc from the development part.

I got it to work!!!

Clean install the system with this notes in mind:
1- unplug your usb modem so the setup doesnot install anything for it.
2- install all the development packages.
3- when it asks which cds you want to mount, let it mount the 3cds.

After installation is finished do the following
Go to package installer and choose to list available packages alphabetically and type in the search box "ppp" you will find several packages , leave the first two then install the rest.

After installation of these packages is over, unpack the speedtouchconf script in your root directory. then copy the microcode zip file into the directory which you unpacked the speedtouchconf script.

Open a terminal and type "sh speedtouchconf.sh"
It will ask for some info like your user name and password and your VPI & VCI values. and thats it.

It will connect after it finishes.
I have attached the script with the microcode just unzip in the root directory and go.
