SpeedTouch 330 -almost got it to work in Mandriva!
Hello, again.
Well, I thought I'd finally cracked it and was going to get my SpeedTouch 330 working in Mandriva 2006. Here's the script I ran for your thoughts on what might have gone wrong: Password: [root@virgin david]# dir autosave Download speedtouchconf-27-Jun-2006 benefitstrapgermany.doc mgmt.o speedtouchconf-27-Jun-2006.tar.gz David's\ Documents Music speedtouch-firmware_0.3012k_all.deb Desktop ogg tmp Documents Pictures Video [root@virgin david]# tar xzvf speedtouchconf-27-Jun-2006.tar.gz speedtouchconf-27-Jun-2006/ speedtouchconf-27-Jun-2006/po/ speedtouchconf-27-Jun-2006/po/C/ Then there are long lines of 'speedtouchconf-27-Jun-2006' etc. that just go on repeating themselves for quiet a while before we get to: (c) Steve Parker, 17 Oct 2002 - 2005 speedtouchconf comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY; for details type: ./speedtouchconf.sh -gpl This is free software, and you are welcome to redistribute it under certain conditions. Any thoughts/help on this matter would be appreciated. Many thanks, Dave. |
Do a clean install then used Speedtouchconf-2.1-beta2 and rev4fw. Possible that they have now newer versions of the driver. Probably you did this before, not ask but it seems that sometimes it work and sometimes not, never found the explanation for that.

Thanks a lot, I'll try those options!

Dave,
Two suggestions: 1] Go back & edit your original post to remove your email address, or spambots will harvest it. 2] Dump the speedtouch & get yourself an ADSL modem / router / firewall that has an ethernet connection to your PC. It is easy to set up, and will then work will any linux distro you install. I struggled with my speedtouch for some months, and became increasingly frustrated with the different installs for different distros. It was educational I suppose, as I learnt quite a lot about how linux works, but then got myself a zoom X5, and never looked back. HTH |
True, nothing works better then a Ethernet ADSL Router, they are not that expensive also.
But why giveup so easy, can try the Speedtouch for a few times. I can almost say if you giveup on something after a few times trying, then Linux is not for you. |
If you decide to keep looking into it, this google trick may help. Each forum has a search engine, and when you select "Search" in a particular forum, your browser address/navigation box will show the address where the forum threads are located. It's usually the same as the forum address, but not always. By typing your search-term in front of the google command "site:", which includes the address where the forum threads are located, you can stay in google while searching the forums. Paste the first one into the google search box and hit "enter". Hope this helps some - good luck !

I don't know what the error message means, but I have this modem working with Madriva2006. I used the file rev4fw.zip.
I believe the process I followed was:
