Special danish characters in Fedora Core 10

Hello, complete newbie here.

I'm having problems with special danish characters in Fedora Cora 10. I'm unable to type any special danish characters (æ, ø and å) when I edit documents or am writing queries in MySql. Special characters in system/error messages are also missing.

I'm using Putty to access the server.

Not really sure what system variables to post, but here goes:

[i18n]
LANG="da_DK.UTF-8"
SYSFONT="latarcyrheb-sun16"

Welcome to LQ.

May be this isn't solving your issues, but ...

It seems, the default keyboard setup for Denmark
is "Danish".
Can be changed to "Danish latin1" to make "all"
applications use æ ø å :

1) su
2) system-config-keyboard

( I do not remember, which application, I used,
when I had to do the above change.)

Good luck !

Hello again.

Tak for det hurtige svar.

Unfortunately it did't solve the problem.

The server is used as a gateway (using Jboss) for mobile devices, and I've discovered that users logging in with usernames containing æ, ø and å are rejected. Seems like the server are not able to pass on the correct user name to the user verification system.

Like it is probably not a good idea to use local
letters in an email address, it is not 'best choice'
to use them in user names and passwords.

If using æ ø å, the users will only be able to use
the phrases in a limited location / for a limited
set of applications.
.....

I agree about the user names, but even if the users changed their user names, it wouldn't change the fact that I'm still unable to type any special characters.
