Source code for Universal CDROM/DVD version 3.20 Wanted
 

Need source code or driver for LG Sata CDROM/DVD/BLU-RAY writer. Model number BH16NS40. Current driver is Universal CDROM/DVD version 3.20 and it does not cover BLU-RAY. Is there another driver which would work?

My new system is a MSI Z97 Guard Pro motherboard, Using Intel I5 processor, 8Gig ram, a Sata 500Gig Hard drive, Sata LG BH16NS40 CDROM/DVD/BLU-RAY Writer. I used the drive to load the system using the CD from Ubuntu Mag Version 13.10. Later I updated from internet to 14.04. The system will not play DVD movies or Blurays. I found a site that instructed how to see the info on the driver. Shows Ver 3.20 and it should play DVDs but not BLURAYs by the info on the driver. I checked the box again and found it contained windows only drivers. If there is no other drivers I will try to get the details from the LG for the drive, the BlueRay part. I did contact LG and they said they do not do LINUX.

are you sure it is the drivers and not anything else because i have used a lot of dvd/blu-ray drives both lg and other and never had the issue that linux did not install the correct drivers for the device to leave it not working. are you sure it is not something like missing dvd/blu-ray programs or something like that...

No baldur-1 I am not sure of any thing. While I was searching for the source code I found this site and it explains how to view the driver info. Follow the instructions and it will show you what the driver is capable of. Mine shows driver is Universal CD/DVD version 3.20 and a lot of info on what it will read and write. There is no mention of BLU-RAY so I thought that it meant it would not play them. If you follow these directions what do you see? If it is the same I do not have a clue where to go next. I have tried several players also. VLC, Dragon, and Amaroc audio to no avail.

yeah, i would imagine the problem is with not having the appropriate programs for dvd playback. here is a link to what you should need to play a dvd in linux...

as for blu-ray, i havent spent any time working on it so i dont know but this thread says they can get it to work so do at your own risk...

i would say it probably has nothing to do with your driver. i would do those and that will most likely solve your issues.

I already have been trying to get the first one LIBDVDCSS but cant find it. I get an error message when I try to download it. Says unavailable but another program is pointing to it. The other two loaded and installed first try LIBDVDREAD4 and LIBDVDNav4. Still will not play The green mile. I finally watched the first part to see what the movie was about on my sons portable device. Still trying to get it to work on my new system.

As for the Bluray stuff I did get it to download and got the first one moved but the second will not move to the proper location.

well, unfortunately, since i dont use ubuntu, i cant speak specifically on that but a dvd would not work yet without css. css is the unlocks for the dvd, read is how to read a dvd and nav is how to navigate a dvd. you need that last part in order to get it to work. you need to google until you find the css program name. this is another dvd how to, maybe they changed the name of dvd. try this otherwise i would try google yourself for dvd playback.

Success I finally got to watch a DVD with sound too. Sounded like hell but at least it worked. Need some real speakers now. These old ones are from stereos and walkman speakers so are not much good. Lots of static in them. The last pair went bad on the last computer just before it died. I hate it when the cost overruns the budget. I started with a $500.00 mother board and cpu and memory. Ok then the CDROM would not work in the new board, Not SATA. Now almost $725. NOw some speakers.

A new set of speakers helped but not fixed. Still have problems with the sound. Sounds like all the channels are fighting for the sound channel. I am using the analog speaker jack for the speakers. While watching the movie if I change the volume the pop system sound goes off but it repeats about a dozen times like a machine gun. Any more ideas?

Do you have a link to get the source code for ALSA sound system? All attempts have failed. I get an install package and an installation. I have not found the source in /src as it is empty. No MAN page either. Also no source code for the CDROM driver. Are these program source codes not available for some reason?
