Sound with slackware
Ok, I finally got slackware on my box and for the most part it all works smoothly. Now I have one quick question.
I wanted to play some music, but quickly found out that my sound isn't working. I looked on here and tried the alsaconf command and presto it works....but only on root. I trie dto alsaconf on my username and it cant find the command. How do I configure it so that all users have the same settings for sound? |
did you log in as user and su to root than try alsaconf?
|
Did you unmute the mixer ? If not set alsamixer (as root), then sound should start working.
If trying to play a CD, remember to include yourself in cdrom group (not sure it is cdrom, may be disk.., I made many modifications on my box). Also remember to run "alsactl store" to make permanent the sound level. Ciao |
As root:
Code:
gpasswd -a <username> audio regards, ...drkstr |
Yep, add yourself to the audio group

I have a question concerning Slackware, I am currently running Window Xp and Linux Mandrake 10.1. Can I install slackware in my system while running the other two OS?
I have downloaded slackware, Xandros, Fedora Core5 and Ubuntu but can not get either of the to boot up. Is there something I don't know about starting these OS? |
This is not relevant to the thread, please post your questions in the proper place in the future. To answer your question, You can have as many linux distoro's as you want on your system. Just provide them their own root partition and a boot loader (grub or lilo) installed on the MBR . Just configure your boot loader to prompt for an OS selection at boot time and then boot to the appropriate partition.

Ok, sorry about the wrong posting I am still trying to figure this fourm out. I read that the thread was about slackware so that's why I posted here. I will look around for the right place.
Thanks anyway. |
Thanks all, I just added myself in audio and everything worked out just fine :).
