Sound suddenly not working?

Hello!

OK, this is a strange problem, because I can't explain what I did wrong at all. I'm running SUSE 10.0.

I was listening to a song, in amaroK. I hit pause, went away for a little bit, and when I came back and hit play again, there was no sound. No matter what the volume, there's just nothing audible at all.

I've checked volume, checked that my headphones (I don't use speakers) are plugged in, still working, etc, and I can't remember what other settings I would need to look at at all ... (Sound doesn't work in any other applications, either).
Sound has worked in the past (for several months!) so, uh, I don't know. If there's anything else you need to know, ask ...

Any advice?
(There's a reason I'm posting in the Newbie forum ... 'cos I really have no idea about this at all ...)

Maybe something is using the sound device file and crashed. I know this is a lame windows sounding solution, but did restarting the computer help? If so, we will at least be able to get a better idea as to what caused the problem.

Hi,
i am also facing the same problem. Moreover even rebooting didn't help. I hav also checked all
processes. No other process is using the sound device. One more thing is it works perfectly fine in windows. Can someone tell me how to test the sound device in suse 10.1. Where should i check for it ??
Thanks & Regards,

I get the same problem and for some unknown reason the mixer Master Volume Control is turned off. Go to the volume control and make sure the green light is showing above Master Output

I haven't figured it out, I haven't added anything to the default installation except multimedia according to the Sticky at the start of the Suse forms. As near as I can tell mine does it after using the dvd. I can't seem to duplicate the problem, it seems to have a mind of its own and turns off at random. I hope someone else has had this problem and can help us.
