sound problem

My audio works only in certain applications like VLC and MPlayer. It doesn't work in Firefox or Amarok.

Perhaps if you told us what you've tried, where it fails, and anything about your configuration (like version/distro of Linux, and what kind of hardware), someone could help you.

Since it works in some things, chances are whatever Firefox plugin you're using for media, isn't working right. And you don't say what file(s) you're playing through Amarok, but alot of distros don't ship with MP3 support built in by default...you have to install the codecs.

I am using Kubuntu but I have the Gnome desktop installed as well. My sound card is the Creative SoundBlaster Audigy 2. I have all the codecs installed for playing back video and MP3. When I go to a site such as YouTube I have the video but no audio. When I open up Amarok I can't play my MP3 collection. Also in Miro Internet TV I experience the same problem-video with no sound. I can go into my Home Folder and play either an audio or video file directly but only with certain players. As for what I did to correct the problem besides checking my multimedia selector and sound not much else. When I get this all figured out can you tell me how to save my settings so that they don't change?

My sound problem is solved For some reason my sound works only through the sound chip on my motherboard and not through my sound card as it did previously.
