Have you tried checking the mixer settings ? Make sure Kmix is installed, open it up, and check the volume slider, and move it up to the max. You also might want to try every option under "select master channel" You do have sound some sound right ? The next thing to do would be to download and install the latest version of ALSA. I have a realtek audio chip too, and had quite a few problems getting it to work. But my problem was no sound at all, if you have sound, but at a very low volume, then the problem can most likely be fixed by checking the mixer settings. It seems you've chosen SUSE, and it's a fine distro I've heard, but I always recommend Ubuntu or Kubuntu to linux newbies, because it "just works" most often with a wide variety of hardware, and the people on the ubuntu forums are very friendly to people new to linux. I use Kubuntu myself, because it gives me the least hassle of any distro I've ever used.....and debians apt just kicks ass.

Best of luck.. let us know how it turned out.....
