sound problem

After installing video drivers. My sound broke and I get this error:
//****************************
// Error Message start
//*****************************
Sound Server information message:

Error while initializing the sound driver:

device /dev/dsp can't be opened (No such device)

The sound server will continue, using the null output device.

//****************************
// Error Message end
//*****************************

I ched dsp and it's located in the dev folder.

Thanks for your help.

I am using mandrake and there is no sound setting except under KDE. I got there and change things around but it still will not function. ALso, my connection is broken everytime I start my computer. This also happened after nvidia drivers. Thanks

Hello,
You may use ALSA instead of OSS sound drivers. You can find an explanation in the following link.

http://linuxhelp.blogspot.com/2004/1...ipset-isa.html

This link is for sound cards with Aztec chipset. But the steps are the same for other chipsets I guess.

Hope this helps
