I would have assumed that kaboodle (being a KDE
app) uses arts and therefore should be happy. It's a
bit odd to see two instances of artsd running, though.

Do they both go away if you log out and check from
a console?

Cheers,

Are you telling xmms to use arts as the output
plugin, then?

I didn't tell it to do anything.. Everything was fine at first..then BOOM I get a msg saying "Redhat has removed support for mp3 playback due to copyright bla bla" So from there on its been a huge problem.. Ive installed countless players and frameworks like mpg123 xine etc

Well ... did you try a
ldd `which xmms`
to see whether all required libs are there?

I have fedora core 2 and i initially had the same problems. This is what i did:

try this:

1. Download the latest ARTS drivers (THIS IS A MUST)
2. Download the MP3 library/plugin for xmms
3. Download the ARTS plugin for xmms, then set the option to use this new plugin in xmms options.

see how it goes.
