Arrow Sound only plays in Totem video player, but nowhere else, on Ubuntu 7.04.

Well here's the problem. I never even tested my sound card (since I'm an Ubuntu user for just a cupple of hours ) it worked in Totem so I thought it worked but now I tryed to go on YouTube and i get no sound the same thing happens in VLC and well everywhere else except in Totem. When I go to the sound configuration, when I go System --- > Settings --- > Sound, it seems that everything works except the voice capture (but this didn't work in Windows either so this is no problem) (I press the test button to hear the sound), so what could be wrong?

Please assist

Most websites like Google, Yahoo and YouTube use .flv which is a form of flash video. There are numerous posts about not having audio in flash videos. As for the difference in your players, check their audio settings. For example, if Totem is using alsa and VLC is using oss that could be the problem.

A very common problem is that some sound sources are muted or are set to a very low volume level.
Open up your sound mixer, and make sure sources aren't muted, or turned right down.

What version of Ubuntu are you using? Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Xubuntu, and version 6.06/6.10/7.04. All of those version numbers are still regularly used/downloaded by many, despite the fact they are a bit dated(6.06, 6.10).

If you have the "horn" in your taskbar, right click it, and choose "Open Volume Control", and make sure everything is all the way up(especially Master, and PCM).

If that checks out, click File/Change Device, and see that its set properly.
