If the link I posted describes your mobo's sound chipset and you want to use in Linux, you will.

You could always stick in something like a SBLive! or Turtle Beach Santa Cruz (I love it, but to get everything working I had to install the ALSA CVS driver) and get much better sound.

am i compiling from source or rpms?

That depends upon the kernel version you need for support. I don't think mandrake has a package built for the one you need, do they? If not, download the one suggested and learn how to compile your kernel.

13 attempts for my first working kernel. I felt like I was back in Windows with all the re-boots.

haha you are asking the wrong person, thanks for your help, hope i can get this working

fancypiper 09-05-2003 03:55 PM

You sit at the computer and can see the results of commands and stuff that you do.

I can't see all that stuff from way over here, so you will have to be the right person to ask. :D

You have to know your hardware to compile the kernel correctly (and speed things up as a result).
