are you using an integrated soundcard? if so, you might have overclocked too much and caused a malfunction in the circuitry, and linux doesn't recognize a sound card anymore. I would try to clock it back down a couple notches to see if that's the problem.

ok, i am using a intigrated sound card, if that is the problem, can i reverse it or is the sound part screwed for good?

You should be able to, just try and put the system back to it's standard clock settings and see if it works again, if it does, then the overclocking is your problem, if it doesn't, then there might have been some damage OR there really is a software problem, but most likely it's a software problem.

ok well thats good to knowe:P, i will clock it down and see how iit goes, if it dowsnt work, should i just re-install linux?, or should i try to install windows or something to see if it is the sound card? that way im sure its not the program?

no no, don't re-install, you should be able to fix it without re-installing. Although, i'm not quite sure would be the problem, but I'm pretty sure it's just the overclocking causing an actual hardware problem that will be able to be fixed once you clock back to normal levels.

Integrated soundcards can also be problematic. You may need to fiddle about quite a bit to get it to work, so be patient :)
