Sound Issues
Help!! I have sound working fine through the computer speakers, but I have a lovely pair of Logitech Z-2300 sitting around collecting dust. Now, as much as I LOVE my laptop speakers, and I do, I would much rather listen to my Z-2300's. Whenever I plug a jack into the audio out on the computer (the jack with the headphone picture above it), there is no sound. This is true for my Z-2300s as well as a normal pair of headphones. But once I unplug the device, sound comes through the speakers in the laptop perfectly fine. Does anyone know how to fix this or what I need to do to make it work????
I GREATLY appreciate any response!!!! Thanks!! |
Doesn't sound like it's a software problem. The laptop should just redirect the sound to the headphone jack. Has the headphone ever worked?

Maybe the line-out is muted? unmute it with alsamixer.

Oh yes!!! When I had windows installed (about 1 month ago), the headphone jack was working just fine with the Z-2300 and regular headphones. But once I installed FC4, no sound when I plugged something in. There is no driver I need or anything like that?

Maybe there are seperate controls for the built-in speakers and the lineout. I don't know the first thing about laptops. There should be a sound mixer somewhere (Gnome right? Somewhere on the toolbar there should be a sound thingy, I think a right click and then any of those). See if any of the channels are muted or just really low volume like mr_demilord said. Or you could issue alsa-mixer in a terminal window (like mr_demilord said :p).
