My english it's not fine, but ....

I have two computer with Debian kernel 2.6.8-2-386, both have the same chipset in the sound card, the output of the lspci command is like:
...
0000:00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corp. 82801EB/ER (ICH5/ICH5R) AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02)
...

I have not sound but, by error, I put de speaker jack in the connector michophone and the sound appear
I thing it is an error, but I'm newbie in Linux and do'nt kown how to compile the kernel

I had the same problem on a Dell 4700 with i810_audio. Turned out if I plug my old (2-channel) green speaker plug into the black connector (and not the green one), I get sound using `nas' and `auplay'. I guess I'm not used to multi-channel sound on PCs!

hi guys,
I have Dell with intel 810 and i had same problem with alsa. I put the line snd-intel8x0m in /etc/hotplug/blacklist and run alsaconf. The soud is up but somethime it stops for a second or two. If someone found how can i fix that please post it.
