sound : /dev/dsp
I've just upgraded to Mandrake 8.1 and everything is to be configured once more.
No sound out my computer. (even as root) I've noticed that linux can't find /dev/dsp (doesn't exist) when I launched xmms in a xterm. What shall I try ? |
what sound card are you using?
|
It's a SB (8bits I think). I had some bad times about it when on mandrake 7.2 : I've had to configure /etc/modules , modules.conf ... (alias sound sb , and : options irq etc...) and everything went quite right. But as far as I can remember the /dev/dsp , mixer, and sequencer were there.

If the entries for dsp are missing from /dev you can create them with the MAKEDEV script in /dev. Do "man MAKEDEV" for the options.

Thanks for the information. I was hopping I would not have to make it (and configure core...) myself: and I was lucky since I just had to do "modprobe sb"! (setup in /etc/modules) :)
