Unhappy sound card not workin

Please help!
Previously i was runing FC1 which recognised my sound card and all was merry.
Now i've upgraded to FC4 my sound card is recognised but fails to make a sound.
Its just a bog normal intel cheapo thing that came with my pc as new 2 yrs ago. is there any trick i can try to configure things so that my pc is no longer mute?
i've tried the obvoius sound card detection tool but though it finds the card no sound plays when testing (or any other time for that matter)
I like a little music while i work so this is driving me nuts

Have you tried alsamixer command?
If not run the commnad ' alsamixer ' and check to see if the levels for master and pcm are up and also that there is no MM above the bar. If there is hit the mk ey to unmute.
If this fixes it then ' su -' into root and run the command ' alsactl store '

not that i know of. With FC1 it worked straight after installation with no interference from me so i had no idea i had to meddle with it.
How do i go about loading my sound card module???

Probably since alsamixer is pulling up a mixer interface

Are you sure your PCM and Master channels aren't muted? Are the speakers on and plugged into the correct holes? If you are getting a mixer interface, your problem is *probably* a sound level not set correctly, or a hardware issue (not turned on for example). Slightly less likely would be that it detected the wrong card and is loading the wrong modules, but that is far from likely since you get a nice mixer interface. Check those Mute options closely... Also check that it's not trying to send audio out over a digital interface that isn't there, it might think your soundcard is more advanced than it is!

Cool
