Sound Blaster Live! 24 Bit and Slackware 12.2

After 5 hours of searching i only have one option left: ASK..

Someone PLEASE tell me how can i install the SB Live! 24 Bit card in SW...

I've tried a lot of things, now I can barely remember 2 or 3..

It's the first time i use a GNU/Linux system, so i will appreciate your help. If you can't help me i will use Google again and again until i find something, i will never quit...
Mybe i take a rest, but later i will continue...

Thanks in advance to everyone who tries to help. =)

If the answer is really simple, my apologies for wasting your time ^^

In case it helps, I'm using KDE as X

Have you tried alsaconf and alsamixer? It usually helps.

Also, run 'lsmod' and check if any sound driver has been loaded.

First... you will RARELY need to install drivers using Slackware. The only drivers I EVER installed were for a GeForce 7Go... so. Most likely, your problems are in the setup department.
I suggest you first check whether your system has detected your audio device correctly: if you're in KDE, KInfoCentre > PCI will list everything. (Or you can type "lspci | grep audio" in a console)
Once you find the entry for the SB, check the "Kernel modules" loaded... if one is loaded (never mind the name, it might be quite compatible even when different), then you should nimble with the alsa mixer setting. (KMix should do it.)
If that doesn't work, check if the sound system is indeed activated: KControl > Sound & Multimedia > Sound System ─ make sure 'Enable Sound System' is checked (I know this seems dumb, but it HAS happened to me... so better safe.) If it is, and audio still doesn't work... well, you'll have to wait for someone more versed in the audio thingie...

Good luck!

PS: You could try running from the console a game/app that NEEDS audio and post the error log here... Finding "what the problem is" would help.

Thanks to both :)

Yes, I've tried alsaconf and alsamixer and nothing happens...

How can i do this?

Once you find the entry for the SB, check the "Kernel modules" loaded...
With kmix i can choose:
VIA8237 and CA0106:
I have CA0106 choosed.

In the "settings" label I have:
With CA0106:
"Analog Source" where i can choose> Line In, Phone, Mic, Aux
"Digital Source" where i can choose> IEC958 in, IEC958 out, i2s mixer out, i2s in, AC97 in, SRC out
"Shared mic/line in"> Line in, Mic in

With VIA8237:
"Surround Jack Mode"> Shared, Independant
"Mic Select"> Mic1, Mic2
"IEC958 Playback Source">PCM, analog in, IEC958 in
"Mono output select">Mix, Mic
"Channel mode"> 2ch, 4ch, 6ch
"Input Source Select">Input1, Input2
"Input Source Select">Input1, Input2 (A second one...)

'Enable Sound System' is checked...

I have tested the sound in windows and is working..
I'm testing it in SW using Youtube and nothing happens... I can't hear anything but no error is displayed with YT
Now I'm playing a game that is installed and i have no sound...

Thanks again to both...
Realy, thanks for the help you are giving me..

Ah, snd_via82xx! You have TWO sound cards, don't you? You have an on-board card and a PCI card. You thought that disabling the on-board card in the BIOS would suffice, but it's being detected and used by the OS nevertheless. Try hooking up your loudspeakers or headphones into the on-board card's jack and tell me if you don't get sound from it.

In that case, please check this thread:

I have plugged the sound system in the onboard output and is working..
That's good!
