Sony Vaio Motion Eye

Hi everyone,

I am having difficulties configuring my webcam on my Sony VGN-FW580J (running Arch linux).

lsusb shows the device
Code:

Bus 001 Device 002: ID 05ca:183d Ricoh Co., Ltd Sony Vaio Integrated Webcam
I believe that there is support through the uvcvideo kernel driver, but I have not gotten it to work (tried modprobe). Does anyone have any advice or experience with this?

Thank you in advance!

Ricoh cams need their own driver

Well a quick google search seems to confirm that only uvcvideo *should* be required. Could you please show me what you are referring to (only drivers for ricoh I can find are ahixon and r5u87x,which is where it says that they are now obsolete).

Here is output of "dmesg | grep uvc"
Code:

uvcvideo: Found UVC 1.00 device <unnamed> (05ca:183d)
usbcore: registered new interface driver uvcvideo

open a terminal type gstreamer-properties click enter

click video
try v4l and v4l2
use the bottom test button for each 1
you may need to change the plugin auto find

see if the cam comes on

Thanks for your response. Don't have gstreamer-properties/gnome installed though. Anything else I can use?
