Some software questions!!

What is the procedure for installing programs in Suse linux, such as quicktime or a comparable player?

Also, why does my sound keep cutting out when I'm playing mp3s with XMMS and telling me to check my sound card? Is there some procedure for editing the multichannel features, or what do I have to do?

Well, regarding the movie player, you have two choices really, xine and mplayer. They should handle quicktime, though you may have to install extra codecs. Eventually you can install these from source, but, since you're new, perhaps you'd be better off with the binaries, if you can find them.

Firstly, do a "whereis xine" and also a "whereis mplayer" just in case you have them already. Then if not, hunt around.

http://xinehq.de/index.php/releases does have binary rpms for Suse, but I'm fairly sure there are no binaries for mplayer.

Maybe the soundcard isn't seated properly ?

I found xine, how do I get it to run without using xmms. Every time that I try to run it it loads the mp3 player.
