Some Questions Regarding FEDORA 11 & 12
 
hai i am new user and a person who in now trying to implement Fedora in my college at all levels. I have some problems i would like to have an expert opinion on these issues. Actually i am college lecturer teaching for MBA

1. can we add ROOT to login window? if yes how.\

2. i am using a compaq presario v3000(3070)INdian version laptop, i recently installed fedora 11 i686 version right now i don't have a sound output, i can't play anything.

Expecting a Solution buddies.

1. I think you can:
Type in terminal :

Code:

sudo passwd root
and enter the password for root user and from next time you can use username “root” and this password to login or use su to have root access.

2. Type alsamixer and see if the volumes are maxed out. Else you will need the gstreamer codecs. I would suggest add RPMFusion repo.

i have an hp elitebook 6930p and for some reason the sound wont come thru the internal speakers; it only works with headphones plugged in (have you tried with headphones plugged in ?)

As Fedora versions only last 13 mths, I'd recommend Centos as a more stable long term solution.
Centos is the free version of Redhat, so it'll be similar to Fedora.

I did try ur one....
this is what I get...

2nd Centos, unless you enjoy do clean installs on all those machines once a year.
