This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

Hi, I have both Gnome2 and KDE3 on a Debian Sarge 2.6.9 kernel. And I have a few questons.
Nr.1 I went trough the KDE configurations and changed all the colors and now web pages gets colored to, I tried to change back to a different color scheme but it did'nt help. Do I have to restart Konkeror for changes to take effect or did I change some other setting I can't find again? And how can I exclude specific app and say web pages from my color scheme?
Nr.2 I messed around for avile to make KDE my default GUI, but the only file I could find was /etc/X11/default-display-manage. I changed it to kde or kdm or somthing like that but it was only the login manager that changed. After avile I gave up and changed it back to gdm and now when I log in from gdm it enters KDE all of a sudden. But if I log in from the terminal it goes right to Gnome, I like the way it works now exept I would like it to enter KDE at deafult when starting x from the terminal. Any ideas anyone?
NR.3 This last one is not realy about KDE. After I finaly faund and installed the win32 codecs to get wmv files to play the codecs did'nt work very well at all. It dropped alot of frames and finaly froze. The file plays perfect in WMP so it's not the file, it's wmv3 format I think. Is this just general linux vs win issue or is there somthing wrong in my setup?
