Soft link "Premission denied"

I am confguring ldap on my linux box, the problem is i have made the soft link of the conf file to some other location. now when i start it it says permission denied to that conf file.
But when i copy the file in that directory it works fine. I am starting it with root user

any suggestions on this

Not meaning to sound like a twit, but don't symlink it.

Some programs (especially things like authentication daemons), won't work with symlinked config files. That way, some joker can't shove his own file out there and link it in, and give himself root privs. Some programs don't care, though....
