So much information.. (ati drivers)

.... but I'm still really confused lol :o! I've searched a lot, an got lotsa fragmented bits of info. I got the free DVD version of Mandrake 10.1, but I have a Radeon X800SE. Seemingly unsupported, so now after installing Mandrake it wont boot into a graphical UI. Im stuck at the console when booting up..

Now I'm Dual Booted with XP, so I've logged back on to find out the problem. Im as far as downloading the Ati Properietary Drivers..

I was wondering, if I burn a CD in windows with the rpm on.. how do I view it in linux via the console? I've read like.. i'm supposed to type:

Quote:

rpm -ivh --force fglrx_6_8_0-8.10.19-1.1386.rpm
But how do I navigate to the CD-ROM to actually view the file? An after I get to it, and type the command in quotes up there ^^ should I be able to restart straight into KDE? or will I need to do something else?..

sorry, its all pretty confusing and im really intrigued! Any help appreciated..

Your CD-ROM should be at "/mnt/cdrom". So after you copy the file from Windows to the CD, reboot to Mandrake, and type "cd /mnt/cdrom". Do a "ls" and you should see the rpm file.

As for what to do afterwards, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS ON THE ATI SITE! Print them from Windows if you have to. They are the *definitive* way of getting the drivers installed. If you don't follow those instructions, we can't help you, because you won't have done things correctly.
