So... I used Chown command and screwed my pc...

OK. i FINALLY managed to install slackware in my computer AND managed to set up a FTP server... then I decided to make a super user that could change any file remotly tru FTP.
So i ran chown (SP?)
But I ran so all directories would be like the TMP directory to user johnny
When I restarted I got a bunch of problems... like password files in danger and such... AND my ftp no longer accepts connection...

And I thought that deleting johnny would help...

well it didnt...

anyone knows how to fix this?

chown root those files it complains about and then give some strict permissions to the /bin, /boot, /etc folders and so forth

so you made all your files and directories readable, writable, and executable to "johnny"? i'm sure you know that that is not a good thing so i won't say it :)

but really, you may want to (oh no!) think about reinstalling; trying to change back to sane permissions could be a daunting task unless your system won't complain if your entire system is chowned to root (save maybe the /home/user folder)

he he, there is a file in /etc/ called ftpusers read it!! and you'll see why it is considered a security risk to do what you just tried.........

you should just re-install and start over......easiest way to fix this problem.

They say when you play a Microsoft CD backwards, you'll hear Satanic messages; if you play it forwards, it will install Windows....
ROTFLMAO
ty for the response...
so... I shouldnt make a supa usar with ftp?
Is there anyway to make a supa usar with fpt? like root or something?
