Hello everyone...

I am totally new to Linux and have just managed to install Mandrake 7.0 on my PC alongside Win98. The installation went fine untill Linux tried to locate the drivers for my NIC (SMC 1255tx) no problem I thought, I went online and got the appropriate drivers.

Now I've come to install them....nightmare! It's not helped by the fact that I don't really know what I'm doing with Linux Konsole, but I have managed to copy the drivers using this command line:

#cp -f root/tmp/smc/tulip.o/lib/modules/2.2.14-15mdk/net

That took me about 30 mins....oh, dear...

Then from the /net directory I chose:

#insmod tulip.o

And the return I got was:

tulip.o: not a ELF file

I'd really appriciate some guidance, cuz I really wont to go onlinr in Linux and c:\del Windows!!!

The driver would have to be compiled for that specific kernel. So I hope you got the right version.
You might be better off getting the source code and compiling the module yourself. You can get more information on that here
