OK, I renamed the printer Diane_Printer and mapped to that. I also upgraded to the latest cups and smb packages. It seems like an incorrect file. How do I ensure that it is not being treated as a postscript printer? Thanks.

you'll need to configure the printer to use the hpijs driver, and you'll need the ppd file, you can get the latest from linuxprinting.org. this should work if you've got the path correct. keep at it, i 'll stay as long as it takes.
good luck.

I am using hpijs. KPackage showed an updated one, so I downloaded and installed it. I had Norton Internet Security running, so I disabled it. When I looked at the ppd file, it looked just like the one from linuxprinting, but maybe I missed something. I will download the ppd from there and give it a shot.

concerning the firewall, you'll need to disable it, or at least make provisions for your network to be able to print to a networked printer. i don't run norton, so i can't tell you how to do that. some firewalls won't allow full "stealth" and local area network connections. best bet is to leave it off for the time that you are trying to get printing working, but if you decide to quit for a while, and come back later, be sure to turn it back on.
