Small non-bloated linux distribution

Hello, i need a small and non-bloated linux distribution.
I am a linux newbie but first installed linux in 98. Since then i tried many distributions but always ended up uninstalling them because i think they are too much confusing... RedHat, Suse, Mandrake... You name it.
The last installation i did was slackware and i liked it, the problem was that it was too big in memory and disk size and i couldn't do what i wanted(small virtual network on vmware).
So here am i looking for a really small distribution(less than 50mb) with the kernel, bash, network utilities and other usual UNIX tools.
I don't need X but i want to have the possibility to extend the distribution by downloading and installing other packages(rpm or any other format...).

What distribution will make me a happy guy?
