Small linux with no gui(maybe a window manager), for a macbook, any idea's?

So, anyone got ideas? I want to dual boot (flash booting maybe?), I generally don't use my trackpad, so cli is good, although I want to use vmware player (for uni).
Any idea's for a good distro?
I really don't wanna do much more than that.

Hi, Welcome to LQ!

LQ has a fantastic search function that may save you time waiting for an answer to a popular question.

With over 3 million posts to search it's possible the answer has been given.
you can use openbox, it is a very small (memory footprint, light weight wm) window manager.

Instead of vmware I use virtualbox (sun microsystems), but there's no reason why it should not work.

IMHO, kde4 is window$ like, it offers all/most(?) the tools you may need.

Including open-office. and printing capabilities.

Graphics manipulation? GIMP. There's not many distro's that won't do what you want.

It's just a matter of How much do you need.

I'm sure you'll find a GNU/Linux solution to fit your situation.

Personally, I use Mandriva (Full gui desktop) and slax on a flash drive

regards Glenn

Hello rhysaj92,

If just the command line interface is being sought, I would recommend Arch Linux. It will provide you with everything you need to get started, and features a simple package manager with dependency handling. If you would like a GUI, it is easily obtained in Arch Linux. Have a look at the Beginners Guide for details.
