Im using pentium 2 333mhz ram i suppose is 128mb, btw this mach is in office.

Anyway pls do post ur suggestions, other than upgrading the system. Thanks

have a look at the ram useage when you boot, and again when it gets laggy...

could you be using a bad program that is leaking memory ???

you're presumably uising KDE for a start... try a lighter manager like Fluxbox

While we'd not want *too* many comparisons, you would expect winXP to run on that machine would you?

You probably are running updatedb (building the database for the locate command) if the box wasn't on at 3 am when that job is scheduled to run.

In most distros, if the scheduled cron jobs aren't run in the AM when they are scheduled, they will run shortly after startup.

If you really want to know what is causing the slow down, try the following.

When the system gets slow, at the command line,
type: top -bn1
This will list all the processes running on your system.

Use Shift+PageUP or Shift+PageDown key combinations to view the results.

OR

type: top -bn1 > top.out
This will redirect the output to a file called top.out
