slow ftp upload

hi please excuse my ignorance for i am a new newbie.

i have recently installed mandrake 9.1 on a pentium2 and hoping to use it both as a desktop environment and print server.

to start with i just want to use it as an ftp server.

when i try and upload using fetch on a mac it is extremely slow - less than 1kbs - using a command line on a pc it is fine, as it is downloading onto my mac using fetch.

i don't think it is fetch - never had any problems like it before.

more info - i am using ipcop as a router

i am also very nervous with a command line and want to try and set things up through webmin.

thanks for your help

Hi,
Just read your problem. Is this still a problem for you?
If so, are these machines all on a LAN or what?

Sometimes if you toggle passive mode on or off can fix this. I once was ftp'ing into my server with passive mode enabled and this created thus a very slow connection, even just LS'ing directories and such.

Just a thought or suggestion.
