Exclamation Slow conneciton to FTP and POP3

Slow conneciton to FTP and POP3 but ssh is fast....

What would cause this?

#netstat -a | grep pop3
tcp 0 0 *op3 *:* LISTEN
tcp 0 0 domain.comop3 CPE014480020575.cp:2678 TIME_WAIT

is this correct?

#netstat -a | grep ftp
tcp 0 0 *:ftp *:* LISTEN

Thanks.

more info

Alright afters scouring the forum for answers I found out if I remove the USERID keyword from:
/etc/xinetd.d/wu-ftpd I get instant access to ftp no waiting 20 seconds to connect anymore.

So, now my questions is what have I done?

Can I do this to ipop3 as well?

And what on earth is the nice variable in wu-ftpd do?

According to the manual page:
USERID logs the user id of the remote user using the RFC 1413 identification protocol. This option is available only for multi-threaded stream services.

Most likely the machine from which you are connecting doesn't have an identd daemon running. So it just waits till it times out and then continues on connecting. I doubt you are going to be able to force everyone connecting to your servers to be running identd so it isn't bad to disable it.
