SLES 11 boot up problem

Hi All,

I installed SLES11 SP1 on my machine. It is available with kernel source in /usr/src/. I built another kernel with this source. New kernel image and initrd are available in /boot. But the newly build image is not getting booted up.

Please suggest solution...

Thanks

Hi

I entered in to the directory /usr/src/linux-version/. Then edited the makefile entry EXTRAVERTION to change the version name. Then within that directory I given, make menuconfig, make bzImage, make modules, make modules_install, make inastall. After all these steps, the kernel image(vmlinuz-2.32.12-{EXRAVERSION}-default and initrd-2.32.12-{EXRAVERSION}-default are available in /boot. Then I restarted and while booting up, from grub I selected the new kernel image and initrd. But it didn't get booted up.It is not showing any errors,Suse loading screen is only displayed.

Thanks

that overview looks like

from 2006

i was thinking you were fallowing something a bit more than
"basic points "

i was expecting something wit a bit "more meat on it "
like for starters what "version " of the kernel for suse?
debug
default
desktop
vanilla

or a suse build service script

Suse uses a bunch of build and config scripts -- MORE than any other distro
and for SELS READ THE DOCS --- "FTFM" ---

you also might want to look at the Opensuse docs and knowledge base -wiki
