slackware won't boot

I've just installed Slackware 9.1 on my other machine, but there's a small problem, it won't boot. What happens is that when I restart, the old Lilo I used for mandrake pops up. That's just weird, cuz I did a total disk wipe and repartitioning before I installed Slack. I'm kind of out of ideas. Help?

And oh, the bootloader doesn't detect a kernel, but there is one installed, I can tell you that much.

Reboot using Disk 1 of the Slack installation CD's, but do not begin the installation process. You will see on the first page a line describing how to rescue an existing system -- you will just need to pass it the "root=/dev/hda3" parameter (for example) That will allow you to reboot the existing installed Slack system. From there, remove the CD, move to /etc and review that your lilo.conf file is correct. If not, make changes to it so that it is accurate. Then just rerun the lilo program (as root, enter: /sbin/lilo) That will refresh your MBR, and that should take care of the problem. -- J.W.

Thx, that did the trick. Had to try a few times though, the lilo.conf looked quite weird compared to the other lilo.confs I've seen, had to redo it totally :) Atleast it boots without a bootdisk now :)

Excellent. I'm glad you were able to solve the problem. -- J.W.
