Question Slackware: Start a service

I need to start the CUPS service. Because as I asked in another post, My port 631 is not open.
The "/etc/init.d/" has only two files and there is no cupsd:
Code:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 832 Sep 23 2008 README.functions
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13913 Sep 23 2008 functions*
I know I have cups installed. I have removed and installed it again today.

Is there another way to start cupsd (or another service)?

In Slackware, there is usually nothing in /etc/init.d/ directory. Most services are started from scripts in /etc/rc.d. For cups:

Code:
# chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups
# /etc/rc.d/rc.cups start
It will automatically start on subsequent boots.

Hi,

you'll have to make /etc/rc.d/rc.cupsd executeable, then it will be started automatically when the system starts.
Code:
chmod 755 /etc/rc.d/rc.cupsd
You can manually start it with
Code:
/etc/rc.d/rc.cupsd start
Markus

BTW: why don't you ask in the Slackware Forum of LQ?
