Slackware: Start a service

I need to start the service CUPS. As I asked in another post, My port 631 is not open.
The "/etc/init.d/" has only two files:
Code:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 832 Sep 23 2008 README.functions
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 13913 Sep 23 2008 functions*
Is there another way to start cupsd?

You will find the rc.cups script in /etc/rc.d/. You have to make it executable first, than you can start the service:

Code:
# chmod ugo+x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups
# /etc/rc.d/rc.cups start
Instead of running chmod you can also use pkgtool: go to Setup, then services, activate the CUPS server, exit and start it as above.

Best regards,
Philip

By the way, welcome to Slackware! Just in case you missed it, here at LQ there's a dedicated section hosting the official Slackware forum: you can post there next time.

Philip
