Slackware pros and cons

I am considering Slackware as my distro for a new firewall I am building. I can't find which firewall variant it uses though. Is it IPTables, Shorewall, or some other firewall? Can it support Shorewall without a giant effort. Should I choose a different distro?

thought shorewall was a frontend to iptables

Now, does anyone know which Firewall programs are supported in the latest Slackware distro?
