When a kernel is not installed, he system won't boot. Do you mean kernel source?

yes ... that whot i meant really ... sorry for the miss information ... everyone sais it is supposed to be /usr/scr/arc or /usr/scr/include or something like that ... i am trying to install vmware ... i get everything to work fine except to say where my kernel header or sourse or whotever....

i know when i installed my nvidia driver it ask to compile a kernel files or something and i pointed it to /usr/include and it compiled from my kernel source ...

i downloaded from kernel web site kernel tar file matching my kernel ... kernel 2.4.20, sys i686 [ELF] ... i pointed my stuff to where i untarred the kernel but now luck ...

that's about it ...

thanx for the reply .... :)

/usr/src/linux probably. It's usually a symlink. If /usr/include worked with nvidia driver, it should work also for vmware. Point it to /usr/include. The kernel starndard location is /usr/src/linux. Look if you have the directory and if it's empty. If it is, you may unpack the tar file here. But you shouldn't need it.

If you are runing Slack 9 and intalled from the ISO the kernel source was not included since space was limited. You must download it first. The easiest way to do this is to download the kernel package from here http://www.slackware.com/pb/?vers=slackware-9.0&set=k . Then run pkgtool to automatically intall it in /usr/src/linux.
