slackware installation error

hi friends,

i am new in linux and decided to install slackware. i've downloaded the 5cd isos and cheksums were ok. when i started install of first cd, at the beginning every thing was ok, but when it started to install the "AP" pakets immediatelly gave an error and the installation stopped. till that point all was ok.

i burned 2 cds with 2 different softwares (under xp) but got the same error in the same point. the media on i'm writing is cheap, but no reason to give exactly the same error.
can the cheksum be ok but still contain an error?
any suggestions? download again cd nr 1? thank u

What error do you get?

Try burning at a slower speed.

BTW, you only need the first 2.

well after loading the first part of kernel, when it come to instal package series "ap" immediatelly stops installing and gives this error line: /var/log/mount/slackware/ap/tagfile: Input/output error and after a few minutes a message says that if the part i'm installing is required then system wont work fine........i've burned at 4x.

there was a fatal error attempting to install

/var/log/mount/slackware/ap/a2ps-4.13b-i386-2.tgz. The package may be corrupt, the installation media may be bad.........any ideas?

At this point your best bet would be to download the first 2 images again from a different mirror and burn them again. If it still has a problem try buying some new disks.

Checksum isn't perfect, but it does help if your download was corrupted somehow.

I'm betting it's either your burn or the burn medium itself.

If it was a different medium each time then no, it wouldn't. If you just reburned the same medium it could be a flaw in the dye or something.

Could just be a bad image, get one from a different server.

So it was indeed a bad CD then? I'm glad you got it working. It really does pay off to spend a tad more for good quality media.
