Slackware, I thought it was a desktop....
I have just installed slackware using the first 2 CDs, after the installation finished I had to reboot, well it seems that I can only run in DOS I thought it was some home Desktop environment.
What am I doing wrong? |
Don't worry, Slack has graphical support, it just doesn't boot that way out of the box. If you want a GUI, once you log in, run xwmconfig to select one (you only have to do this once), then type the command startx to start the GUI. If you always want to boot to a GUI, edit your /etc/inittab file to boot to runlevel 4 instead of runlevel 3. There are instructions on what line to modify in the file.
Of course there is always the joy of learning how to run things from the console. Believe it or not, it is an addictive thing to use....... |
man, thanks allot....
