Slackware "hanging" on boot

After installing Slackware 10 [2.4.6 kernel] the system halts on -- "Activating Hardware Detection: /ect/rc.d/rc.hotplug start"

:Pengy: I know that "chmod -x /ect/rc.d/rc.hotplug" will stop the process from loading but im not sure how to run that command without being able to boot the system.

Maybe this will work, you can use your slackware install cd as a rescue cd boot cd 1 and type this at the frist command phompt(sorry cant spell that word lol) "bare.i root=/dev/hdxx" xx being partation number and type, then you can enter your slackware and run the command hopefully.
