All.. i have been toying with slackware and the kde front end.. i believe that slack also installed gnome.. how do i get the OS to recognize a cahnge in interface.. i have been using startx and then i changed the init to run level 4.. it starts in kde automatically.. any help.. thanks..

First change your runlevel back to 3. Then you can get into a number of different window managers a number of different ways. Type: xwmconfig to choose a WM and the program will edit your /home/usernam/.xinitrc file for you to start that WM when you type startx. You can also edit the file yourself as another way, or you can run say gdm (Gnome Desktop Manager) which is a GUI login that you can also choose from the installed WMs. the kdm program is also the same except it uses KDE's Desktop Manager login.
