I have a problem with LILO. Slackware can't install it I don't have a clue why. The last LILO i've installed was with emerge on Gentoo. It worked I am currently launching windows through it...
So does anybody have a clue how I can change, delete, or Install the Slackware LiLO ?
I also tried to boot with Knoppix and trieng to change the lilo.conf but none of the editors there could read or launch it..
Are you trying to do this from a fresh install? If so, maybe something got corrupted during the Slackware install process. Maybe try booting off a rescue CD and see if /etc/lilo.conf is even present on your system. If not, try chroot'ing into your system from the rescue cd (cd /mnt/sysimage [or wherever your / partition is located] and then chroot /mnt/sysimage) having copied the lilo tgz somewhere accessible, and then try reinstalling it by hand. If you still have your install running, you can switch to the terminal that has all the status reports (not sure which one it is off the top of my head, sorry) and look for the error message there. If we have an exact error message it will help a bit.
hey btmiller.. thanks for the reply.. Well my root partition is on /dev/hda4 and as far as I know my LiLo works.. I am launching windows currently with it .. so the only thing I've to do is to change it.. you know the source
root=/dev/hda6 to /dev/hda4 is there a way how I can do this with the rescue CD ?..
I also have got a bootdisk..
/ok im going now to search the error message etc../
btmiller: I've tried now what you've written in your post without any luck. could you please explain me this mounting etc ?.. I know that my root partition is at /dev/hda4 which has to be mounted.. then I can chroot to it and change my lilo.conf.. but I don't have any clue how.. sorry..
