Slackware and 2.6 18.2 kernel

I just installed Slackware but I need a 2.6 kernel (so Im told) in order to get my IPW2200 wirless card to work. When I run make on the ieee stack I get all kinds of compiler errors so I assume this is correct.

So I followed the instructions on configuring the new kernel (all I did was enable the ieee802.11 support) but it wont boot. I dont even get any errors. It just hangs after it says booting and I got nothing. Just a blank screen with a faint hint of a blue streak and a few faint dots at the top of the monitor.

I dont even know where to being to debug this. Any suggestions?

Its a Vaio VGN-S580P laptop. I dont really know much about the chip set because Sony sucks about giving you any details.

First of all, this topic should be on the Slackware forum.

Second, what instructions did you follow? Were they Slackware specific, or general in nature?

The easiest way, assuming you are new to compiling the kernel, is to install the Slackware packages for 2.6, then just take the default configuration and build from that.

Come to think of it, did you see if your hardware is supported in Slackware's 2.6 kernel?
