Slackware 9.1 works but Slackware 10 does not???

Well.. I have been able to install Slackware 9.1 in the past with no issues at all. I am having problems w/ Slackware 10 though. The first problem I'm having is when I try to install LILO it says "please wait while installing" or something like that but it freezes. This does not freeze on my Slackware 9.1 disk. What I did to get past this is after I am through installing Slackware 10 I will just put Slackware 9.1 and go to configure and then install LILO using Slackware 9.1's disk. My other problem is after I do this LILO works fine, I'll choose linux and everything loads up... I see the hotplug start up but after that I get to this part that says "darkstar login" and I don't think Slackware 9.1 said that but when I reach this part it looks like it wants me to login w/ root as usual for a clean installation of Slackware but I can't type anything, and I think it is frozen. Could it be my installation disks that are the cause of this problem??? Should I reburn them and try again? This is really strange!

Thanks for your help!

darkstar is the default hostname for a slackware system and was indeed what slackware 9.1 said.

What you should have done is not insert the slack 9.1 disk and run configure, but booted from the slackware 10 disk, got to the root prompt (where you would usually type 'setup') and then mounted your hard disk to something like /mnt/hdtemp, then as root run chroot /mnt/hdtemp and then /sbin/lilo (assuming your /etc/lilo.conf is all ok). Then reboot.

Ok I appreciate that, is this a problem many are having with Slackware 10 or is it just me? Now that I have already installed LILO using the Slackware 9.1 disk is it too late or what? Thanks!

I upgraded to slack 10 about 5 days ago and didn't have the problem you're experiencing. So perhaps it is your install media...but it's not too late. If you can at least boot your system then try going to single user mode and running lilo from there.

If you get the option to type any commands when lilo appears, try:
bare.i 1
assuming your kernel was called bare.i or if that fails try Linux 1 or whatever you labelled your linux install.
Then run /sbin/lilo

Thanks for your help! I redownloaded the image files and I'm going to try to burn them again.. if that doesn't work I'm gona try exactly what you said. I would like to think that it would work this time though, just like Slackware 9.1...

Thanks!
Erik
